Using Essential Oils in the Kitchen

Did you know... essential oils aren’t just for diffusers?! Using essential oils in the kitchen helps you create a healthy home. Your family may not even notice you've reduced the toxic chemicals, too!

It's true! They're also way more than a fancy air fragrance - and definitely more beneficial than you realize. They can help freshen the air, eliminate odors, and provide non-toxic cleaning power for a healthier home. Many essential oils have natural antibacterial and antifungal properties, making them a great alternative to conventional kitchen cleaners.

I have severe allergies, so I have to remove as many chemicals as possible. That desire just grew as I had my own kids and only wanted what was best for them. Our home is low-toxins and nearly 100% chemical free. Over the years I have been able to make simple swaps and clean my home with natural ingredients.

Why You Should Use Essential Oils in the Kitchen

Essential oils are simple to use, don't cost a ton of money and provide a little DIY crafty project if you're so inclined. Not into the DIY? No worries! There are plenty of pre-mixed essential oil based products out there, and we can help you decide which one will suit your needs.

Before we do that, let's dive in to how essential oils can help you in the kitchen!

You just have to remember our golden rule - always dilute essential oils and never ingest them. We are not cooking with essential oils! We will be using them to deodorize, detoxify and help you create a healthy home. Let's see how they work in your kitchen!

Freshen the Air Naturally

Instead of synthetic air fresheners, oils are a great alternative. You can mix and match your favorite oils to create custom scents for your home. Visitors will love how good it smells, and you'll feel good knowing it's all-natural! Try these natural ways to keep your kitchen smelling amazing:

  • Diffuse lemon or peppermint essential oil to eliminate lingering cooking odors.
  • Place a cotton ball with a drop of lavender or eucalyptus in your trash can to neutralize odors.
  • Make a DIY stovetop air freshener by adding water, lemon slices, rosemary sprigs, and a drop of lemon essential oil to a small pot. Let it simmer for a fresh, clean scent.

Non-Toxic Cleaning with Essential Oils

Essential oils are naturally antibacterial and antifungal, making them excellent additions to DIY kitchen cleaners. This was one of the easiest swaps I made. Ditch the toxic chemical cleaners and switch to natural ingredients!

All-Purpose Cleaner:

Grease-Cutting Spray:

Fridge & Trash Can Deodorizer:

  • Sprinkle baking soda on a plate, add 3-5 drops of lavender oil, and place it in the fridge or near your trash can to absorb odors.
