5 Skincare Myths: BUSTED!
We’ve all heard older women in our lives share their top skincare secrets. But what if they were just old myths that don’t really help your skin anyway? I’ve thought that myself, so I made it my mission to unravel 5 skincare myths for you. Let’s dive in and uncover the truth behind these common skincare misconceptions!
Myth 1: “You don’t need sunscreen on cloudy days.”
Fact: Clouds won’t protect you! Sunscreen is essential to shield your skin from harmful UV rays every day, regardless of the weather. Those sneaky rays can still penetrate clouds and cause damage, so make sunscreen your daily BFF!
This is especially important for those who live in the north. We lack direct sunlight for a long time in those colder winter months. Make sure you’re using sunscreen even if you can’t see the sunshine!
Myth 2: “Popping pimples makes them disappear faster.”
Fact: Hands off! The temptation to pop pimples is real, but resist it. Popping can lead to infections and scarring, prolonging the healing process. Opt for spot treatments containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to effectively treat blemishes.
Another healthy tip ~ wash your hands! We touch our faces a lot, even if we don’t mean to. Make sure your hands are clean when you touch your face so you don’t transfer dirt & grime to your beautiful face!
Myth 3: “The more you scrub, the better your skin.”
Fact: While exfoliation is key to revealing fresh skin, overdoing it can have the opposite effect. Over-exfoliating can strip your skin’s natural oils, leading to irritation and redness. Aim to exfoliate 2-3 times a week for a radiant complexion without the risk of overdoing it.
I’ve found that exfoliating every other day is a good place to start. I have combination skin (some oily spots, some dry spots) which is overall a pretty normal skin type to have. Using the every other day method of exfoliating has helped balance out my skin and keep breakouts away.
Myth 4: “Natural ingredients are always safe for your skin.”
Fact: Not all that’s natural is gentle! Some natural ingredients can be harsh or even cause allergic reactions. Always perform a patch test before incorporating a new product into your routine and research ingredients to ensure they’re suitable for your skin type.
Myth 5: “A higher price tag means better skincare results.”
Fact: Price doesn’t always reflect effectiveness. Effective skincare products come at all price points. Don’t be swayed by high price tags; instead, focus on understanding your skin’s unique needs and choosing products that address them.
Also… make sure you understand how important natural ingredients are! You may notice your skin change dramatically once you switch from chemical-filled skincare options. Check out my faves from Jordan Essentials here – they are natural, non-toxic and my skin has never looked better!
