If you’ve spent any time online lately, you may have seen tips and information about Magnesium. It seems to be everywhere, and it’s not hard to see why. Magnesium is responsible for hundreds of bodily functions, and when you’re low in Magnesium you can feel a bunch of different things that may confuse you. That’s why we’re here! Let us help you figure out how to know if you need more Magnesium.
12 Ways to Know if You Need More Magnesium
If you’ve ever felt muscle cramps, pain, numbness, headaches, fatigue or lack of focus, you might need more Magnesium. Take a look at the list below. Before I tried adding Magnesium to my life, I had five things on that list…. yes, FIVE!!
Let’s dive in to how to know if you need more Magnesium. How many items on the list below can you relate to?
How many do you have right now?
- Muscle Spasms or Cramps – yes, we all experience this from time to time, but consistent muscle spasms or cramps during exercise can be a magnesium deficiency. This is true for adults, but also true for kids who love sports and playing outside. Even kids can benefit from additional Magnesium!
- Pain or Soreness – see #1 LOL… but seriously, muscle pain may not solely indicate magnesium deficiency, but if you (or your child) are active, you may be more deficient in Magnesium than you think.
- Numbness or Tingling – that’s weird, right? If your feet or legs frequently “fall asleep” while sitting, you may need more Magnesium.
- Headaches – let’s stop right here for a second. No matter what kind of headaches you have, even the smallest amount of extra magnesium may help. You can even use our topical options (applied directly to the skin) before reaching for medication to see if it helps!
- Low Energy or Fatigue – yep, we’re all tired! Ongoing fatigue despite a good night’s sleep may indicate you need more magnesium. Yes, it relaxes muscles but it can boost your energy, too!
- Poor Sleep – oh boy! So many people I know have trouble sleeping, and that can create a bunch of other problems, too. What if you tried magnesium before bed and were able to fall asleep – and stay asleep – without any other supplements? If you’re tossing and turning all night, you should definitely try it. We keep a bottle on our nightstand!
- Decreased Focus/Brain Fog – we are so busy, it seems we are pulled in a million directions at once. What if a little bit of magnesium could help your brain stay clear and focused on the task at hand?
- Anxiety, Irritability and Depression – we are not Doctors for sure, but Magnesium has been known to help relieve the stress and tension that can lead to more serious matters when it comes to your mental health. Ensuring you have enough magnesium may help boost your mood and keep a positive mindset.
- Eye Twitches – this one might be the most annoying thing in the list!! Has your eye ever twitched and you can’t make it stop? Often that can mean you’re low in magnesium. I’ve had good success in reducing eye twitches with regular magnesium lotion use, but I’ve also been able to stop a twitch in its tracks with our magnesium sticks! I keep one in my desk drawer just for this very reason!!
- Restless Legs – it surprises me how many people suffer from this! We have found that the magnesium lotion or magnesium spray (in whatever blend you choose) are the best solutions. A quick application before bed not only helps you sleep better, but can calm those restless legs down, too!
- Constipation/Digestive Issues – many of us know that taking Magnesium by mouth can have unwanted stomach side effects like cramping and diarrhea. That’s not what we mean!! Using Magnesium on your abdomen can actually help digestion regulate itself and relax the muscles to allow things to get moving. The best part is, you can’t get too much Magnesium through your skin, so no worries on having those unwanted effects we mentioned!!
- Craving Sweets – I find this one the most interesting! Did you know that craving chocolate or sweets may indicate you’re not getting enough magnesium? WOW!! Science is cool. Anyway, one of the happy effects of getting enough magnesium can be that you’ll reach for candy less and then maybe those last few pounds will stay away, too! It can’t hurt, right?
